1946:He tugged her ponytail and put a beetle in her lunchbox. Tied her shoelaces together.Every chance He had, to hurt Her, he took it! She was the butt of ALL His jokes. When no one was looking,He slipped his peanut butter and jelly sandwich in Her school bag.
That Friday, she was laid in bed with a fever, He sent Her an anonymous package.
Inside, there was a tangerine lollypop(which happened to His favorite) and a dandelion! She blew its bristles.. and, wished her fever were gone.
1954:He asked her out on a date to the beach. She said she couldn’t go. Her Daddy said she was too young. So,He drew a picture of the setting sun, a thousand lapping waves, a dozen seagulls and brought the beach to her backyard.
He served her iced tea,hot-dogs,cola and gave her a dandelion! She blew the bristles…and, wished her Daddy would let her date.
1957:She had her first “heartbreak”. John left her for a ‘prettier’ girl. He socked John, and wrote Her a poem, telling her how beautiful she was, and gave her a dandelion! She blew the bristles….and, wished She were prettier.
1965:She felt used. Life was a roller-coaster ride with more downs than ups. He asked Her to marry him. She did, thinking her worries could build no more. That autumn the church bells rang merrily. He only saw pain in her eyes. He gave a dandelion and asked her to wish her worries away. She blew the bristles…and, wished her worries away.
2005:Four grandchildren. Wrinkled and happy. He held Her hand as they walked in the park, reminiscing the memories of the past. Every joke, fight, argument and second of their togetherness. He plucked a dandelion and gave it to her. She smiled at Him and, blew the bristles into the sunset… and, She wished, for a tangerine lollypop!
